Hello & Happy New Year!

2017 was a year of tremendous learning & growth for our little family. Dan & I launched full steam ahead to grow our passion while teaching our little ones the value of hard work. Here's a look at some of our favorite projects over the last year!

Bed Frame Bench
We were thrilled when we discovered an incredibly detailed head & footboard at our local auction, but weren’t sure exactly what we would do with it yet…. Dan had a genius idea to use the headboard as a seat back and turn the footboard into arm rests! He then custom built the seat to complement the curves of the piece. We opted to keep it classic with a gorgeous white finish, light distress and very light dark wax in the details to help them POP! Stay tuned for a post from Dan on how to build a Bed Frame Bench, it’s become a favorite project of ours!

Jacobean Hutch
This hand carved beauty was just screaming for a makeover! We discovered her in disrepair in a garage where she had been sitting for the last 30 years… One of the former owners had stripped this piece (and it’s matching table & chairs set) many years before but had never finished the job! Sitting in neglect for so long had left her with a few water stains and necessary repairs to restore it to the former glory & I think she’s better than ever!

Coffee Hutch
Sometimes we find a unique piece and immediately have a vision for the outcome… this is one that took us for a surprise! Initially I imagined it as a soft white, classic farmhouse piece, but the color I used left a soft pink undertone… NOT the look I was going for! Instead of starting from scratch with a different color, I choose to experiment a little. I used a heavy black wax to seal & protect, then wiped it back to reveal this gorgeous, silvery finish! One of my happiest “mistakes” ever, we will definitely be using this finish again! (full post on this project coming soon!)

Metal Trunk
I have a major soft spot for a great before & after photo and this one takes the cake!! (don’t worry, I’ll be sharing it in a post soon!) Our customer had literally rescued this metal & wood travelers trunk from the trash the day before we arrived to pick up a different piece for custom painting. She revealed it to us and gave us free reign to try to bring it back to life! (which was equal parts exciting and terrifying… what if she hates the final look?!?) We spent quite a while on prep work to ready it for paint but the results were incredible! The embossed metal work and weathered wood took paint fantastically, a coat of colored wax pulled it together for a showstopper piece!

French Provincial Dresser
I spent over 6 months dreaming of painting this piece and was absolutely thrilled with the results! We obtained this bureau in early 2017 but the original finish was in pretty good shape & thought it may appeal to the wood enthusiasts as is. There were a lot of complements but ultimately no one was interested in buying in its antique state (even when we marked it down to a crazy low price!). After moving it through way too many of our booths, Dan finally gave me the go ahead to paint! YAY!! I took some extra time and effort with this beauty to show off the details as much as possible. There are many strategic layers of color, dry brushing and waxing that come together for an incredible finish!
Thank you all for an unbelievable 2017, be sure to check out our Gallery for more recent projects!
